The best of the E36 and E30 combined

You have no clue how much I’d like to swap the mechanicals of the E36 M3 into this. With a California top obviously.

Its a pretty common job, but it does spoil the handling a little and I love my Cali roof, even though it does hurt the rigidity and body roll of the car

Actually, it’s the worst of the E30.... The rear suspension really is shit. Too much bump steer

Rigidity be damned!

Technically yes but with the E36 front you can slide the rear around all day while the front stays nice and grippy

that’s not the fast way around a track...... Speed > asshatery, for me

Also has the best option ever fitted to an E36/5: California roof!

Of course, but just because it’s easy to slide doesn’t mean you can’t avoid it. I’ll admit that the regular E36 is a lot more controllable and easier to drive fast but with the right setup the ti can be just as fast or even faster if it’s a tighter course (assuming you have the same engine)

Nope, it just doesn’t have that potential

Not that it’s the greatest standard but then why was the 318ti classed in GS for years while the 318is was down in HS?

You’re trying to use SCCA classing as the cornerstone if your rebuttal?
I mock that, and pretty much any other serious autocrosser like me will also

No, everyone knows that SCCA classing is bullshit, but if you go to NASA the 318ti is still classed higher than the 318is. On the track of course the regular E36 is going to be better but the ti does have its advantages on certain autocross courses.

Where you located?

You can put an xbrace on the underside and also a strut bar on to control the bit of roll - or did you do this already?
